One after another the horses came out on the track for the obigatory parade. After some warmup the horses lined up behind the car as it began to move down the track.

Leaving Sydney could eventually take the lead after a very dramatic start.

This is the positions after 500m. Substance Élégante, Leaving Sydney, Max Rocker, Sweet Sugar, Hard Mustache, Dead Band, Saint Darling, Lying Gold. A bird flew just in front of Unknown who started to galop and lost 50 m.

Sweet Sugar looked tired after 1000m but had to keep up the tempo so that Leaving Sydney couldn't come out from behind the leader, Substance Élégante. Unknown galloped for 60m and was disqualified. Unknown showed unexperience when he was disqualified for galoping. Dead Band galoped after 1000m and lost 50 m.

Powerful Wave was disturbed and galopped for 50 m. Sweet Sugar looked tired after 1000m but had to keep up the tempo so that Leaving Sydney couldn't come out from behind the leader, Substance Élégante.

Powerful Wave galopped for 10 m on the homestretch. Robert Bergh tried a little too much on the homestretch and Powerful Wave started to galopp and lost 50 m.

No-one could catch Substance Élégante today who won before Sweet Sugar and Leaving Sydney.
