The sky was free of clouds and the sun was shining at Vaasa this day. One after another the horses came out on the track for the obigatory parade. After some warmup the horses lined up behind the car as it began to move down the track. Sly Man could eventually take the lead after a very dramatic start. Tapio Perttunen wanted a little to much in the start and Glamorous Angel galoped for 40 m. Glamorous Angel quickly put pressure on the leader and could take the lead after 500m. Sly Man looked tired after 1000m but had to keep up the tempo so that Lenglen couldn't come out from behind the leader, Glamorous Angel.
